With no clear guidelines for reef-safe ingredients in Australia, we’re leading the way to eliminate all harmful chemicals in suncreen and set new standards—protecting the Great Barrier Reef and the health of our planet for generations to come.
Our mission at Sunseeker is simple: to ensure every Australian is protected with sunscreen that is free from harmful chemicals. Sunseeker was founded by a local Yeppoon family with a deep love for the ocean and its beauty. Living just steps from the beach, our family has always felt a strong bond with the sea, whether it's through snorkeling, fishing, diving, or simply enjoying the coastal lifestyle. This connection drives our mission to create products that protect both our skin and the delicate marine environment we cherish. Protecting The Great Barrier Reef
The Great Barrier Reef, located right on Queensland's doorstep, is the largest living structure on Earth. Stretching over 2,300 kilometers, it’s a breathtaking natural wonder that is home to thousands of marine species. However, this iconic reef faces significant threats, one of the most alarming being the harmful effects of certain chemicals found in conventional sunscreens.
Many sunscreens contain ingredients like oxybenzone and octinoxate, which have been proven to contribute to coral bleaching, disrupt marine ecosystems, and harm marine life. These chemicals have been banned in various regions across the globe, including Hawaii, Palau, and the US Virgin Islands, to protect their precious coral reefs.
Despite the Great Barrier Reef being right here in our backyard, Australia currently lacks any national guidelines or regulations to prevent the use of these harmful substances in sunscreens. This leaves our reef vulnerable to further damage and destruction.
