Understanding Our SPF Testing

Our Commitment to Accurate, Transparent SPF Information

We know how important sun protection is, and we take the responsibility of providing accurate SPF information very seriously. Recent media discussions have raised questions about the SPF rating of various products in Australia, and more recently, the manufacturer of our product. We want to make it easy for you to see the full context, the facts, and the data behind our SPF claims.

About Our Official SPF Testing

Our product’s SPF rating is based on independent, accredited laboratory testing conducted under internationally recognised standards (ISO 24444:2020).

These tests measure our product at an average of SPF 52-54 with an outcome of SPF 50 using the ISO Formula (mean SPF minus t-value times SE, rounded down), which is the value we legally and responsibly use in our product labelling.

We make all SPF claims only after our manufacturer completes this required, standards-based testing.

The Recent Unofficial Test Referenced in Media Reports by the ABC

A recent media article referenced an informal test performed outside recognised testing conditions. While we respect the intent to investigate sun protection products, it’s important to understand:

  • The test described was not conducted under official SPF testing protocols.
  • SPF values can vary significantly when testing is done without controlled methods, required sample sizes, or certified testing facilities. This was evident in their testing, where the SPF test reults varied greatly, for the exact same formula.
  • Informal tests are not considered valid for determining an official SPF rating.

Because of these limitations, the reported SPF value does not reflect the product’s verified performance under accredited, regulated testing.

Why Official Testing Matters

SPF is highly sensitive to test conditions, including:

  • Controlled application thickness
  • Standardised UV exposure
  • Trained panelists and required sample sizes
  • Environmental controls

These elements are required for a reason: they ensure the SPF value you see on a label is accurate, reliable, and reproducible.

Our Promise To You

We remain committed to:

  • Following all regulatory and testing requirements
  • Being transparent about how our SPF ratings are determined
  • Continually reviewing and improving our products and testing processes
  • Sharing verified data so you can make an informed decision
  • Updating customers if there is any official change in our SPF efficiency, and taking steps to rectify if required.

You don’t have to take our word for it!
